MY BIO

My journey with art began long before I ever picked up a paintbrush with intention — it started in the quiet moments of childhood in Independence, Missouri, where I grew up after being born in Kansas City. Art was my escape, my curiosity, and my joy.

Through high school and college, I poured my heart into painting and was blessed to receive awards, guidance, and encouragement — including the opportunity to study under the late artist Andrew Thoman, who helped shape my early artistic foundation.
Life took an unexpected turn when I was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers and moved to the West Coast for rookie training camp. Baseball became my world, although class D was not very glamorous,— until an injury during my second year changed everything. While recovering on crutches, I returned to painting to fill the quiet spaces in my days. That period became a blessing in disguise. I studied under California artist Bert Carter, entered art shows, and began selling my work to collectors near and far. What once felt like a setback became a doorway back to my true calling.
California soon became a place of creativity and adventure. I joined three fellow artists to open a gallery in Laguna Beach, later adding a second gallery and teaching studio in Canoga Park. I spent many years traveling across Southern California, displaying my paintings at outdoor art festivals — sharing stories, meeting people, and discovering how deeply art connects us.
Eventually, my path led me into corporate America, where I built a long and successful career across several cities and industries. But through every move, every job, every season of life… my paints and brushes always came with me. Art remained my anchor.
In 2007, I felt it was time to return fully to my creative spirit. I left the corporate world and moved to Treasure Island, Florida — and something inside me instantly awakened. The Gulf waters, the skies, the palms, the rhythm of the shoreline — they brought my inspiration back to life.
When I moved to the Siesta Key–Sarasota area in 2013 to be closer to my son and daughter-in-law, that inspiration grew even deeper. Their love and encouragement continue to remind me why I paint: to celebrate beauty, gratitude, and God’s magnificent palette.
Today, I am constantly moved by the world around me — sunlight on turquoise water, the whisper of palm trees, the peaceful energy of the beach, and the wonder of traveling to new places. Every painting I create carries a piece of those moments and the joy I feel while experiencing them.
Along the way, my passion for creativity expanded beyond the canvas. In 2018, I founded Dobson Video Marketing Agency at www.DobsonVideoMarketingAgency.com to help artists and small businesses share their stories online. In 2023, I began writing books — another incredible blessing — allowing me to inspire others through art, creativity, marketing, and personal growth. My books are available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and at www.LloydCDobsonAuthor.com

I am continuously surrounded by nature’s splendor here in Southwest Florida.  Whether it is boating, hiking,  or enjoying the beach, I am constantly moved by nature’s beauty.  My inspiration comes from the magnificence of both the Siesta Key beaches and experiences traveling the globe.
